The Five Bells @ Colne Engaine

Proud Winners of BII Licensee of the Year 2011 and Great British Community Pub the Year 2011.

Welcome to the Five Bells Public House a pub and restaurant that stands proudly looking over the stunning view of the Colne Valley in the pretty village of Colne Engaine on the Essex & Suffolk border.  The village is only 3 miles from Halstead, 6 miles from Sudbury and 10 miles from Colchester making it very accessible for dining out with friends, family & colleagues.

The building dates back over 500 years, and a record of the Inn's landlords going back to 1579 is proudly displayed in the bar along with other historic information about the pub & village.

The interior retains many of its lovely features such as the original exposed timbers in the restaurant and bar.
Outside, a lovely terrace commands stunning views over the Colne Valley. The restaurant, bar and terrace are all easily accessible via a ramp.

The menu is carefully created to include modern, exciting dishes along with delicious traditional pub food such as fish & chips and homemade pies. All our produce is sourced locally and from sustainable sources and prepared on the premises.

Owners Darran & Caroline Lingley are very proud to uphold the pub's long and fine tradition of hospitality, quality and service. Their friendly staff make all their guests feel very welcome.

"Thank you so much Gilly and Steve for a lovely evening. The food was really delicious. The Yorkshire puddings were just right - in fact I preferred them tonight to previous occasions. Thank you for cooking the leg of lamb for us all, we all enjoyed it. The profiteroles were really lovely - that is a treat I have missed when eating out. Both our friends said you wouldn't know that they were gluten free. I couldn't tell the difference either. Also thank you to Justine for making such a grand cake. Delicious as always"
