2018 Update from Twinstead CC

Twinstead Cricket Club are Looking Forward to the 2019 Season
Everyone at the club would like to wish you a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!!
We have all been so pleased to see so many of you coming along to home matches and enjoying some cricket at our beautiful ground.  We have made a real effort to make the place more visitor friendly and inviting and we plan to continue to do so.  2017 has marked a real turning point in the cricket club’s recent history and it’s re-integration with the local community.  I hope that we are starting to show that we are increasingly working together for the good of the community at large.
Cricketing wise we have enjoyed a very successful season winning the Hunts Division 5 League Title and getting to the final of the Hunts League Cup where we shared the trophy with Milden CC.  We are off to the Hunts League Annual Awards Dinner on the 23rd February to collect our trophies from ex England International Mathew Hoggard.
We are also very proud to have had our first Twinstead CC junior player successfully pass trials to make it into the North East Essex District Winter Training Squad and also the Local MCC Training Hub.  Nest season we are to have a dedicated junior cricket coach and develop our youth coaching to a level where we may be able to field our first ever junior cricket match!
On a sadder note we were very sad to hear of the passing of Nigel Wilmott and Ross Wallace.  We have very fond memories of Nigel and Ross, their knowledge of the game and their lovely sense of humour.  They both made a really significant contribution to the early development of the club and they will be sadly missed.  Our thoughts are with their friends and family.
Initial Contributions to the Community
For example we donated the fee we traditionally used for the excellent Dog Show to the Village Hall and the church.
We have also committed to donate £150 towards the defibrillator project and also pay for the installation the unit when it arrives.  We will donate this years’s Dog Show ground fee to the defibrillator fund and once it is installed the club will pay for half of the annual maintenance cost up to £150 per year.
We have dispelled any myth or confusion by stating that everyone from the community is very welcome to come and enjoy the cricket club facilities including the pavilion and bar whenever it is open.  This is typically match days on Saturdays and Sundays between April and October from 1pm and Wednesday evenings from 6ish from May onwards.  Fixture cards will be available in March and we will all be pleased to see you all  again in 2019.
Call for New Players and Members- Winter Nets
We would love to hear from anyone who would like to come along and join us either as a player or to help the club.
On the playing side we playa mix of friendly sociable cricket and friendly league cricket together with highly entertaining T20 evening matches.  Our playing ages ranged from 12 to 74 last season and we are not worried about your experience or ability.  Our aim is to provide the facilities for everyone to enjoy the game and take part to suit their own aspirations.
Its a great time to try it out. Winter Indoor net practice starts Sunday February 25th 3pm until 4pm at TGS in Cornard.  Its only £3 a person and there is a bowling machine and qualified coach to help and advise if required.  These sessions run every week except Easer Sunday until Mid April.  There is no commitment to join the club needed until you have played a couple of matches and certain that you would like to join the club.  There is no expectation for players to play regularly and we have many players who only play a few matches a year.  Similarly we have over 50 fixtures a season so there’s always lots of cricket available for everyone all season long.
2018 Sponsorship & Advertising Opportunities
Many local businesses have taken advantage of our advertising opportunities at the ground including the fixture card, the sight screen, the pitch covers etc.  The costs are from as little as £50 and as the club is a registered Community Amateur Sports Club you can claim back 25% of your contribution to the club.  Part of this revenue is invested in the local community.  Advertising of your business can also be in return for work or services at the ground rather than money.  We provide excellent local area coverage with over 50 fixtures a season throughout Suffolk and Essex.  We also promote all businesses via social media and achieve over 2000 views on some posts and this is growing.  These deals come with social event invitations, free ground hire, 100 Club inclusion and a host of other benefits.  Please give me a call if you would like to be a part of our winning team and also help the local community as a whole.
The 2018 Season
The 2018 sees us play in the Hunts League Division 4 on a Sunday with more league games than last season.
We are continuing our very successful partnership with our sponsors at The Five Bells in Colne Engaine where we held our fantastic awards evening last November.  The superb food, drink and hospitality at The Five Bells together with the great venue atmosphere made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.  Pay them a visit as we highly recommend them to you.
This relationship is being developed further this year with their very kind assistance in improving our pavilion bar.  Next season we will be stocking he latest popular beers and ciders etc. in conjunction with The Five Bells.  This will ensure we can stock a wide variety of the most popular drinks and be able to change quickly to the requirements of our customers.  In essence they are helping us make our bard a more enjoyable place to visit and an improved local facility on match days.  The Five Bells also supply our food at the ground on special occasions and they have a fantastic range of venue catering options and capabilities.  The giant Paella pan will be seen some day soon at the cricket club!!
We are also holding four T20 matches versus The Five Bells culminating in a trophy match in September.  These are always very entertaining occasions.
We must also thank The Five Bells for their extremely kind donation last season of pub furniture, glasses and so many other items that have made such a difference to the bar and pavilion.
I hope to see you all at the ground from April onwards and any potential new members and / or players I can guarantee you a very warm welcome.  Please give me a call if you are thinking of playing or helping or simply just turn up and meet us at Winter nets on the 25th February.
Best wishes,
Lee Wotton
